Music first for me for a long time... but then over hundreds of listens... oh, that's what he's saying! And I chuckle... D was the all out assault that hooked me, but since then I have paid much more lyric attention. Genius stuff in such a natural folksy way. I can't wait to dig in to this! 12 is/was a forever masterpiece... I can't wait to hear what whimsy you have in store for us.

Thanks so much, James, for sharing these lines. Excited to hear how their life sounds with your music and (audible) voice. As always, your language play is such a joy to hear (as I hear you sing in my head). Some lines that jump to me, ask me to chew on them....

"you see nothing will hit you like hindsight"

"you act as if there's no use for the center" (i'll roll this one around for a long time!)

"it's exactly what it looks like but not what it seems"

I truly hope you don't have to drive trucks again this winter. <3

This is a generous and fascinating share! I'm always afraid to share lyrics on the page even though I've been known to labour over them more than the music... 😅

I already know that I love Keep Calling Me (Baby), and Drive Trucks!! What’s your favorite? 🫶🏼

I don't know honestly:) All of them were really important to me at one time or another. Some have been waiting to come out for what feels like a million years now though. My favorites tend to be the ones that make me laugh. Both of the tunes you mentioned are funny in a way and definitely anchored the album for me:) Reading through them all just now brought up some big feelings-I'm very pleased with aspects of this one. It grounded me through some tough periods and I learned a ton making it🤷🏻‍♂️❤️

I think lock and key will be really fun and challenging to perform. It's intense in the way cheer up is intense-musically even crazier though...maybe that's my favorite.

I think I’ve listened to Lock and Key about 100 times now. Phenomenal

For me, great lyrics are poetic, creative, timeless and thought-provoking. Add some incredible harmonies on them and you've got a stew going. WD has always checked those boxes.
