No question but just wanted to say your music has been a huge part of my life and I charish each release. I started playing guitar after hearing Paint Yourself for the first time in 2009 and I still play in bands to this day. If it weren't for that song my life would probably be completely different.
New to the white denim world . I’m diggin this stuff though man. Incredibly dynamic, raw, and electric. Completely obsessed with the track “Double Death” will do whatever to support/ totally respect you pullin out on Spotify
Thanks for listening-Check out the book by Jorge Amado called 'the double death of quincas water bray' -very funny and cool story that inspired the song title and an aspect of the lyric.
I’ve been fully indulging and immersing myself in everything white denim these past few months before I get to see you guys again in May so this came at a perfect time!!! I appreciate this so so much thank you for the music 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Stumbled across "Let's Talk About It" on iTunes years ago and it melted my brain a little. It's so raw, energetic, and has that old school vibe. These are good things. I've seen you play in Akron and Pittsburgh - both great shows. I wish you peace and balance and all that good stuff.
I can’t even express how much I love those early recordings. So much energy. Brilliant. Enjoy your rest and family time. Very excited to see you guys soon! 🫶🏼
I didn’t dig back into the earliest albums until much later after I was introduced to your music. You had a show in Pittsburgh in maybe 2016 where you played “I Can Tell” and it floored me. Love it.
The early work is where the spirit shines brightest to me. We were a very free rock and roll band. We were really close and we helped each other start to grow up...Clumsily filled in blanks that our dads left. I appreciate all of our eras and wouldn't still be chasing it if that weren't the case. This is what I try to honor with every iteration of the band though. Fearless-unselfconscious-fun-etc. Our most popular work is more known because it is rounder-safer-we depended on it financially-fear started to dictate more and more for me personally-different aspects came into focus-the label spent more marketing money so more people would hear it. We not only came to Pittsburgh but we played on TV...like a lot:) Not trying to knock any of our work-I like it all-but if all but some had to disappear the first year is what I'd want to be remembered for. We did that shit all by ourselves for no one but us. Pure joy-I got emotional hearing my wife Elaine singing by herself at the end of darksided computer mouth this morning. It has been a long road that will continue in some form or another as long as it feels right and I can keep it going. Thanks for listening.
When I first heard Darksided Computer Mouth it was like an atomic bomb going off. My friend somehow got a 7" when he visited a record store in the UK and we would put it on and dance like freaks haha! Hope I can somehow score a copy one day.
Late to the party as always, but I know you'll still get the notification (I'm a substack man myself 😂)
Hearing you talk about the time of recording, you can hear that freedom, that energy of "this could be anything", and I'm sad that the grind of the biz took that away.
HOWEVER...I do get some of those vibes with the latest WD gang. Cat & Matt & Dan & Michael feel like the kind of players who can take these songs and run with them. I said to you in Liverpool I'd love to see them tackle Mess your hair up, but I think they can put a new spin on all of them. Even if I can tell might end up at 100mph!
I'm also a big user of bandcamp* and think it's great as a platform. As someone who has transitioned to a digital catalogue, it is handy, and could be perfect for Last Days of Summer for example
*the new owners aren't great but the platform still works
Hey Mo-Good hanging recently:) I followed you here and I'll def check out Bandcamp eventually! I'm starting to get all the records back and need to do something with them. I hope nothing I've written feels like a slight to any formation of the band but rather props to the dudes that started it and built a framework with me. I honestly think the group and its music are aging in a way that I'm not too embarrassed about. The playing and the creative aspects of the work are still super enjoyable and completely inspiring to me. This current lineup is the most balanced and talented group that I've assembled and I hope that's at least somewhat of a reflection of who I'm trying to become. My only gripes are around the business of it really and some of the fans. I can control neither of those aspects but I can't help but try to steer a little bit. At the end of the day I feel like the luckiest guy I know:) Hope to see ya a third time this year-if not early next. ❤️
Any thoughts on putting more of the catalogue on Bandcamp for to purchase? Not sure how you feel about that platform vs other streaming service types, but I’d make some purchases
Hi Ross:) Bandcamp isn't really on my radar tbh. I know that we have three or four pages there that have been started by different labels. It feels a little messy so I have avoided it personally. Do you like it? I sort of only care about trying to keep the physical records in print:) I want to believe digital music is a fad😂❤️
I do like it as an alternative to Spotify and as a lightweight and quick way to support artists (i.e., cheaper to buy something non-physical). But certainly if it doesn’t align with your vision, then I think it wouldn’t be worth your time in nearly any regard :)

Thank you James
Will always have a special spot in my heart for early WD. Love this collection of wild and exuberant tunes
Thank you for sharing! Amazing how life changes! What a ride!

These are the tracks that made me a fan so many years ago. They still sound as awesome as ever.

There's a wonderful display of range in here. Great share!
